GPS Kit - Offline GPS Tracker App Reviews

Hands down the best!

I own a $550 Garmin 550T Oregon GPS! Its really nice, the best Ive ever owned! Ive also downloaded and purchased so many hiking GPS apps to search for the most versatile, user friendly and light on my battery! I currently have the iPhone 6 Plus! This app is literally taking the place of my Garmin handheld GPS! Im a techie kind of outdoorsman and this app has won me over!!!

Must have for getting GIS data

I use this very often to track my paths on atv, snowmobile, skis, foot etc. Often times I will put it into Google Earth or ArcGIS and make a map. Lots of export options so you will have data for most any mapping program. Of course youre always limited in the accuracy by the device your using, but the data is easily cleaned up if there is a multipath error etc. love it. Worth its weight in gold.

No longer loads ins files

This has been my go to app for gps for a long time. Recently it just started crashing every time I try to open kml kmz files. Tried deleting and reinstalling but it didnt help. Hope it gets fixed.

Great app but needs updates

I use this app for hunting, fishing , trapping and hiking, would be nice to be able to change waypoint icons, to accommodate what Im using it for, like hunting, stand locations, trail camera locations

Abandoned app

This app has been abandoned by the developers. No updates for over two years.

Complicated but powerful

This is my first GPS hiking app, and it took a while to figure it out. The instruction videos are super helpful. After a few outings I got the hang of it. I love the waypoint function, especially the ability to take photos of the waypoint environment. My son and are using the app to document his hikes for Hiking Merit Badge, for Boy Scouts, and its working well. Highly recommended app!

Great app hindered by bugs

Sadly one of the best features of this app "offline maps" has some pretty major bugs and its been over a year with no update so I figure this app is basically dead. Sad.

End to My Frustration

After days of trying to get used to Motion X GPS nonintuitive UI and frustration with that apps poor offline custom map implementation, I downloaded GPS Kit. Within 5 minutes I was able to do what I couldnt on Motion X -- and without any tutorial, video, Help, or back-and-form with technical support. Well done app!!!

Great app that has been abandoned, so I have to go

I have loved this app, and referred it to many friends and peers. We’ve used it as our primary tool for research and work, as well. Unfortunately, it’s become so buggy since iOS8 that it’s unusable. It crashes continually, fails to load data, will not work with existing map types, and a host of other problems that make it just a pain to even have. I have written to support a few times. While my request for an update was always quickly responded to, the answer has been the same for over a year: no updates in the works, and don’t expect one any time soon. Small team, I get it, but I wish just a little love to get this app (that I’ve paid $40 for) to at least WORK would be great. Not new features or better support for new devices: just be able to function on a device sold in the last couple of years. The alternative is Garafa’s GISKit, which I assume gets more attention than this app … but I can’t spend $100 to take that gamble. I’d gladly pay more for GPS kit if it worked and could get updates, and I’d gladly pay that $100 if I felt that GISKit would not fall to this same fate, or hasn’t already. There are no great alternatives out there for this niche and I am honestly sad to have to find another tool to use due to apathy. As soon as I hit submit on this form, I am going to purchase Gaia’s product. I wish I didn’t have to. If you ever get GPSKit back on track, I’d love to come back.

Abandoned and crumbling

RisingConvictions review is spot on, Im in the same situation. GPS Kit hasnt had an update in 2 1/4 years. Its unmaintained and shows it. Sad, as it was my TOP GPS app. Using Gaia now in addition to Cyclemeter and Strava which are more in tune with collating data.
